The Lord of the Rings: Gollum received a brand new trailer at The Game Awards that gives The Lord of the Rings fans the best look yet at the game’s eponymous hero. Check out Gollum’s trailer from The Game Awards below.
The new cinematic trailer for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, entitled “A Split Personality” shows off the “twisted mind” of the version of Gollum that gamers will play as in the game. Harald Riegler, the producer for the game at developer Nacon, described designing the game based on the descriptions from the books. In an interview from earlier this year, Riegler described how characters that had only appeared in the books before would be in the game, a first for them in a visual medium. The video (linked above) also showed off the designs for other characters such as Gandalf that look suitably different from what has been seen before. As such, Gollum, his personality, and his antics are also based on the book version of the character.
Nacon describes The Lord of the Rings: Gollum as a stealthy, parkour game. The first trailer for the game, released in March, showed off some pre-alpha footage. In that trailer, we can see Gollum sneaking past enemies and scaling mountains. Ala, Assassin’s Creed. Set before the events of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, the game will tell the “untold story” of Gollum’s quest to be in possession of the ring. Gamers will be able to play as Gollum throughout his quest to obtain his precious. Although there is no release date for the game yet, Nacon hopes to release the game by the end of fall next year.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC in Fall 2022.
