Movies tend not to push dates too many times, but in this case, Disney is replicating something often seen in the video game industry. The company has decided to have The Marvels get delayed again, pushing its release date from July 28 to November 10. This makes about the fifth delay for the film.
The July slot will be replaced with The Haunted Mansion, which is based on the Disneyland ride, will take up the release date of The Marvels. The film was originally slotted for August 11. It will star Rosario Dawson, Owen Wilson, LaKeith Stanfield, Danny DeVito, and more. It was directed by Justin Simien (Dear White People) and written by Katie Dippold (Ghostbusters).
No reasons are specifically known at the time of writing why this delay took place. It is coincidental as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania released today and has received a mixed reception, giving Marvel its second rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes. Disney has also been trying to cut costs, so maybe giving the film time could minimize costs or at least improve its quality as it gets more time in post-production.
The Marvels gets delayed once again, finding November release date
The Marvels has been going all over the place due to various circumstances changing its release date. The entire MCU got moved due to the start of the pandemic. It was previously in Quantumania‘s slot for February 17, but the company swapped the dates, putting what was previously known as Captain Marvel 2 to July 28. Previously, Blade would have been released this November, but that is set for September of next year.
Marvel Studios has been building toward this film for quite some time. Captain Marvel introduced Brie Larson as Carol Danvers. WandaVision saw Teyonah Parris gain powers as Monica Rambeau. Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan got introduced in Ms. Marvel, which set up the team-up movie in the after-credit scene in which she teleports away and is replaced by Larson. The premise of the upcoming film will see them swapping places as they use their powers, leading them to come together to figure out what is happening. It is directed by Nia DaCosta (Candyman).
