It’s been over four years since the last Batman Arkham game, Batman: Arkham Origins. After a decent hiatus fans have heard and seen the smallest signs of life from the franchise, whispers in the night some would say. Teases from the studio developing the new title WB Games Montreal. Their first tease in the form of a vague Twitter post. Captioned with “Capture the Knight/ Cape sur la nuit and an image that made many speculate the Court of Owls from the logo. For those that don’t know, this is a more recent baddy group in the Batman lore. They operate behind the scenes, much like our hero. Of course, they’re bad, so they do bad things; instead, you get the idea.

Batman Arkham Rumors Soar
Since September 2019 of the initial tease, fans have been given small tidbits. The most recent rumor comes from a reliable source by the name of Sabi, an industry insider, and journalist with a great track record, Sabi. He’s recently spoken to what he says are “multiple people on it” (the game). “Batman game does seem to be a reboot. The name also changed during development. On the bright side, the Court of Owls is still a big focus, as I said before.” A response from an Alex Mott on Twitter responded with, “Still an Arkham title?” To which Sabi replied, “I would assume so since I was specifically told that it is a reboot is correct, so a reboot of Arkham, I reckon. Basically, the stuff going around in articles lately is correct.”

What Kind of Reboot Are We Getting?
If this rumor is true, it looks like the series will be taken in another direction, possibly what many would call a “soft reboot.” Although there isn’t any evidence that it’s a soft reboot, as a four-year hiatus could very well mean a hard reboot, a completely new and fresh direction for the series. Sabi’s record on reporting and sources of these types of things is solid. That said, things change; people can be wrong. Until we have a concrete announcement, this is all speculation.
What do you think about the recent rumor? Would you prefer the next title to be? Or would you like the Batman Arkham series to continue where it left off?
