Today in honor of the DC Fandome, fans of The Sandman can see the first look at Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer. Neil Gaiman wrote The Sandman for Vertigo. Neil Gaiman was famous for books like Bad Omens and Neverwhere. The Sandman follows the titular character, also known as Morpheus, who is the personification of dreams. The Sandman’s travels take him to Earth as well as, on occasion, Hell. Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman premiered this specific iteration of Lucifer, who went on to cause problems for popular characters such as John Constantine. Vertigo has had varying degrees of success with its adaptations. NBC’s Constantine sadly did not make it past the first season.
News that Gwendoline Christie would appear as Lucifer was released earlier this year. Lucifer is not the only image that was dropped. The rest of The Sandman’s cast photos were dropped as well. Fans can see familiar characters such as Dream and Death. Gwendoline Christie became famous after starring on HBO’s Game of Thrones. She plays a principled knight, Brienne of Tarth. Christie is not the only Game of Thrones alum to be joining the cast of The Sandman. Charles Dance is joining The Sandman as Roderick Burgess.
Lucifer On Netflix
Lucifer has always been a popular character on television. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina portrayed the Dark Lord as a petulant child and father of Sabrina. Supernatural’s Lucifer had another take. Mark Pellegrino’s Lucifer was a fallen angel who wanted to escape Hell.
The Sandman‘s version is not the first time that Lucifer has made an appearance on Netflix. While The Sandman and Netflix’s Lucifer have different continuities now, The Sandman comics considered this character one and the same. On Netflix, there are some differences between these two characters. Tom Ellis’ Lucifer is pithy and looking for a vacation from his duties in Hell.
The promotional photos for The Sandman show Lucifer as someone not to be trifled with. The Sandman will air on Netflix in 2021. However, there is no release date available.
