Netflix has announced that it has acquired the rights to The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, an upcoming romance film from ACE Entertainment, producers of To All The Boy I’ve Loved Before. The film is based on a novel by Jennifer E. Smith.
The film’s inspiring novel, The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, was first published in 2013. The story follows Hadley Sullivan as she meets a boy named Oliver on a last-minute flight to London for her father’s wedding. Oliver and Hadley bond while aboard the flight but are separated upon reaching London. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the official film synopsis reads, “The probability of [them] ever finding each other again seems impossible, but love — and London — may have a way of defying the odds.”
The role of Hadley will be played by Haley Lu Richardson (Unpregnant), while Oliver will be portrayed by Ben Hardy (6 Underground). Additional cast members are said to include Jameela Jamil (The Good Place), Rob Delaney (Deadpool 2), Dexter Fletcher (I Hate Suzie), and Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’s Diary).
The History Behind The Statistical Probability and Netflix
Prior to it being picked up by Netflix, the screenplay for The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight was written by Katie Lovejoy, a writer for To All The Boys: Always and Forever (2021). Production rights for the film were quickly locked in with ACE Entertainment. According to Deadline, by being secured by Netflix, The Statistical Probability upholds a “fruitful partnership” between ACE Entertainment and the streaming service. It’s the fourth movie produced between the two, following all three movies in the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before series and the upcoming film Hello, Goodbye and Everything in Between.
Production for The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight on Netflix will be overseen by Matt Kaplan, Matthew Janzen, Max Siemers, and Aubrey Bendix from ACE Entertainment. Further information on the film’s production is currently unknown, including a release date.
