The Suicide Squad Reboot Finishes Filming

That’s a wrap on The Suicide Squad.

Recently, director James Gunn took to Instagram to announce the completion of filming on the anticipated reboot. Pictured in his post are the cast and crew involved in the film’s production – of which the 53-year-old filmmaker had nothing but kind words to say.

Accompanying the post is a paragraph of appreciation in which Gunn said of The Suicide Squad team: “The professionalism, talent, compassion, and kindness of this cast and crew inspired me every day. Thanks to everyone involved in this film, in every stage of development, in every department”.

The director also took the opportunity to thank the fans; “I am grateful from the bottom of my heart for you all. You are why I make movies.”

Gunn seemingly praised the empathy of the Suicide Squad production team, especially when it came to the loss of his late father. “My father died two weeks before we started filming, and my dog died two weeks before the end. It was a hard, hard time in my life and yet the most fulfilling time I’ve ever had making a movie.”

As fans, no doubt know, James Gunn is no stranger to directing movies about a ragtag group of super-beings from different backgrounds. Gunn’s name became big in nerd culture after he directed and wrote 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which was released to surprising critical and commercial success considering these heroes weren’t as well known as other Marvel properties at the time. The original Suicide Squad would be released two years later.

After being fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn was approached by many Hollywood studios, Warner Bros., among them. He was given a selection of DC properties to turn into a film; Superman is among the available options. The director chose the Suicide Squad sequel – which would eventually become know as the rebooted The Suicide Squad.

But with this project having been filmed, Gunn will soon be able to focus on Guardians vol. 3, of which he was reinstated to direct in March last year.
