With more and more people watching, The Suicide Squad is now the second-rated DCEU movie on Rotten Tomatoes. Patty Jenkins’s Wonder Woman (starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine) still holds the spot for the highest-rated DC movie on the website. Jenkins’s depiction of the movie and the character is praised for its message, stylized action, and humor.
Warner Bros. asked director James Gunn to lead a new project revolving around the fan-favorite Suicide Squad. This film was originally set to be a sequel to David Ayer’s Suicide Squad (2016). However, Jame Gunn’s standalone sequel features a new story, new characters, and the results are much nicer than its predecessor. Both critics and audiences have received the film well since its August 6th release. It also had a successful UK release weeks before.

Gunn also took to Twitter to celebrate The Suicide Squad’s reception abroad on July 31. Because of this reception, The Suicide Squad is his first film to receive a Certified Fresh ahead of its US premiere.
As the weekend is still going, The Suicide Squad’s Rotten Tomatoes score now stands at 92% and an audience score of 86%. Currently, Wonder Woman has a score of 93% and an audience score of 83%. While it was not able to beat Wonder Woman, The Suicide Squad’s Rotten Tomatoes score managed to beat Shazam!’s 90%.
Gunn, who both wrote and directed the movie, has been praised for telling the story that the DCEU movie Suicide Squad 2016 should have been. Returning cast members include Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, and Jai Courtney. Together, they have to work with Idris Elba, John Cena, Daniela Melchior, Sylvester Stallone, and more to fight a battle inspired by the previous comics. Casual viewers have also praised the film’s casting, humor, justified rating, and characters, with Idris Elba being the standout.
The Suicide Squad is currently in theaters and available for streaming on HBO Max.
