AMC has confirmed that a holiday special of The Walking Dead is coming. This marks the first time that the zombie franchise will ever air a Christmas special. The unique episode is set to premiere on AMC+ next month.
Before you get excited and expect to see our gang of survivors killing zombies again in the world ruled by the dead, be aware that it isn’t that kind of special. Thanks to ComicBook, we know it will instead be a virtual talk show helmed by Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick. There is yet to be a confirmed lineup. We can expect most of the main cast to show up though. Not only will the holiday special feature familiar faces from the mother series, but we’ll also get exclusive interviews with the cast of spinoffs Fear The Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond. Maybe Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) will show up to promote his upcoming Walking Dead movies. Who knows?
Of course, given the complications of the coronavirus pandemic, the holiday special has been made virtual. However, the cast is now well acquainted with the changes in format. In the summer, they held the Walking Dead Family Hangout virtual event, and it worked out pretty well.

There will be a lot for the cast to discuss. With the holiday special taking place on December 13, this will be after the season finale of World Beyond, so we can expect some hints as to where the second season will take us. Also, I expect to see some interesting talk on the mysterious six extra Walking Dead episodes coming in early 2021. We don’t know much about these upcoming episodes yet, so it’d be nice to see some new details. It’s understood that Lauren Cohan (Maggie Rhee) will have a part to play after recently returning to the franchise.
You can watch the Walking Dead holiday special as part of AMC’s Best Christmas Ever 2020 when it airs on December 13.
