The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf will follow a young Vesemir
There has been much speculation about what The Witcher‘s animated film will be about. Rumors were that Henry Cavill would provide his voice and, let’s be honest, he’d probably love to. But it won’t star the White Wolf; it will instead be Vesemir, Geralt’s mentor and father figure.
When Geralt was given to the School of the Wolf by his mother, Visenna, it was Vesemir who took him in. Vesemir, the oldest surviving Witcher, trained Geralt and other young boys to be Witchers. Subjecting them to brutal training and the Trial of the Grasses (the mutations which turn a man into a Witcher), it’s said that only three in ten survive the trial.
The animated film, however, will take us back to before Vesemir met Geralt. The synopsis reads: “Long before mentoring Geralt, Vesemir begins his own journey as a Witcher after the mysterious Deglan claims him through the Law of Surprise.” This law has become a real problem for our characters…
The film is being produced by Studio Mir, who created The Legend of Korra anime series. So far, all we know is that it’s about a young Vesemir, and will deal with “a powerful new threat facing The Continent.”
Who’s playing Vesemir?
Theo James, who has appeared in Castlevania and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, voiced a young Vesemir in The Witcher. During the final episode, his voice appears in a flashback to Geralt’s childhood. There is no word yet if Theo James will be reprising the role. The snippet of Vesesmir’s voice we heard was likely recorded during the production of this animated film. Fans have also expressed they want to see Mark Hamill in the role. He has also expressed interest:

When The Witcher was in preproduction, showrunner Lauren Hissrich tweeted out a character profile of Vesemir:
Sprightly (despite the fact that he's…)

The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf will drop on Netflix sometime before series two of The Witcher.
