The Dominator is the weapon of choice for Psycho Pass’s police force. It registers itself to authorized users, reads a person’s potential to commit a crime, and decides the amount of force required to take them down before that happens. Ignoring the fact that every single human being on the planet is perfectly capable of breaking the law, this high-tech borderline-tyrannical weapon is now being produced and distributed for household use. In real life.
Manufactured by Cerevo, this replica does everything it did in the Psycho Pass TV show, except for the actual shooting. Owners can register the gun to themselves, have it determine a target’s crime coefficient, and even change from non-lethal paralyzer to lethal eliminator mode. It comes with 217 LED lights that replicate the weapon’s modes from the anime. Plus, the Dominator replica features over 100 voice samples from Noriko Hidaka, who provided the voice-overs for the gun’s functions on Psycho Pass.
These voice clips are only recorded in Japanese, but there is a way around that, more or less. Users can install a smartphone app that will display the text in English while the clip itself plays from the phone’s speakers. It can also be used to customize the gun’s automated transformations and even capture a photo of the target with their crime coefficient displayed on the screen. Finally, a special edition of the Psycho Pass Dominator is available which features a polished rosewood grip and an aluminum PSB mark above the grip inlaid with a synthetic ruby.
If all of this sounds extremely high-tech, that’s because it is. Unfortunately, along with the impressive functionality and saliva-inducing bells and whistles comes a nightmarish price tag. You might want to sit down for this one: $900 for the special edition. Naturally, the standard version is somewhat cheaper. A separate protector case is also available for $130.
