Getting a big hit at the box office isn’t easy today. Luckily, this weekend’s box office finds the latest Creed movie at the top with a significant opening. Creed III, which serves as Michael B Jordan’s directorial debut, brought in an impressive $58,658,008. In addition, Creed III has the biggest opening box office for a sports movie in history. Needless to say, it’s also the most successful film from the trilogy. Its box office debut is more than double that of Creed and 25% more than the second film in the trilogy. In addition, fans should note that a fourth movie is in the works.
Creed III stars Michael B. Jordan, Jonathan Majors, and Tessa Thompson. The film is aided by its stellar reviews. Currently, it has a 96% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The critical score is 87%.
Based on the reviews and the buzz about the movie, Creed III should have a reasonably long life in theaters. Reportedly, its budget was around $75 million, a threshold it should cross very soon.
‘Ant-Man’ Continues Its Steep Decline At The Box Office
Creed III may be a big hit, but other high-profile films are floundering at the box office. Last week, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania had the biggest second-week drop of any Marvel movie. The film eroded another 61% to a shockingly low $12,481,000. This was enough to come in at number 2 at the box office. However, its domestic total is only $186,799,000. These numbers are not great for an MCU outing. Number 3 at this weekend’s box office is Cocaine Bear, with a tad over $11 million.
The only other new film besides the new Creed movie in the top 5 is Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba-To The Swordsmith Village. It made a little over $10.1 million. Jesus Revolution rounds out the top 5 with over $8.6 million in its second week.
