The developers of Marvel’s Avengers are hyping up the release of the game by showcasing the voice actors and actresses playing Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. The most recent Avenger they are featuring on social media is perhaps the strongest in both brain and brawn: The Hulk and Bruce Banner.
Doctor Banner is voiced by legendary actor Troy Baker who told Marvel he’s excited to take on the iconic role.
“Playing Bruce in this space allowed me to explore him as a human and the weight he bears by being such a brutal force. Bruce sits at the emotional core of our story. His relationships with the characters, which is often tenuous, spotlights his inner struggle. We’ve carefully crafted an arc for Bruce that simultaneously recalls fan favorite storylines and builds upon them.”

However, when it comes to choosing his own superpower, Baker says he’d go for something a bit different than being hit with gamma rays and gaining physical strength.
“Definitely control time. Korvac’s the only one that kind of has this ability, but I think that would be the greatest power on Earth & an incredible force for good. That or turning villains into tacos. Because..tacos.”
Mmm…tacos…
While Baker may be tackling the mind behind the purple pants, he isn’t alone in portraying the character.
The talented Darin De Paul, the voice behind Overwatch’s Reinhardt, is voicing the Hulk. He first got a taste for Marvel comics after reading Fantastic Four number 160.
“The ever-loving blue eyed Thing on the cover fighting Arkon the Annihilator! Bought it going on a trip with my father. Devoured it. Thus started my love affair with all things Marvel. Excelsior!”
Now, portraying a character like Hulk requires a large personality and an even more impressive set of skills. Yelling and screaming all day can take a toll on the vocal cords but De Paul says he’s trained his entire career for this very thing.
“It is acting in its purest form. You lift the character off the page & give it life. And coming from Broadway & musical theatre I learned how to fill a big room with my voice.”

Finally, it takes one more actor to flesh out the rage machine. Hawk Walts is the stuntman who performed all of Hulk’s movements and attacks. In a very Iron Man-like way, Walts wears a motion capture suit to add emotion and character to the behemoth.
“Hulk is such a physical character. I loved running around the studio pretending to wreck everything. The sets & props we used were minimal, so we had to use a lot of imagination. Most fun I’ve had on set, ever. Incredible!”
Last but certainly not least, stuntman @blitzkrieghawk gives Hulk his unstoppable moves – causing mayhem on the motion-capture stage. Read on for his thoughts on playing such a physical character, and personal insights into Hulk’s always-angry demeanor. pic.twitter.com/whFuqrqN9P
