It’s been a while since we’ve seen the Green Lantern hit the big screen (most of us would like to forget the 2011 Ryan Reynolds film), but it looks like we might be one step closer to another attempt.
According to Crazy Days and Nights, a rumor has been circulating that A-list action star Tom Cruise (most recently seen in Mission Impossible: Fallout) is a front-runner to take on the leading role in a new Green Lantern film adaptation. Apparently, it is written in the script that the character would be eventually killed off in the film, but Cruise has requested that it be changed if he were to sign on.
This rumor has been long-running, especially with director Christopher McQuarrie in talks to helm the movie (McQuarrie previously directed Cruise in Jack Reacher, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, and Mission Impossible: Fallout). These rumors have not been confirmed by Warner Bros. or DC, and the talks reportedly took place back in March.
Henry Cavill, well-known for his performances as Superman in the DC universe, has commented on Cruise being cast in an upcoming DC film. “I would love to work with Tom again. So, any opportunity I get would be enormous fun,” Cavill told ScreenRant. The two actors recently co-starred together in Mission Impossible: Fallout.
Tom Cruise is one of Hollywood’s biggest action stars these days but has yet to play a superhero on screen. Although this report should be taken with a grain of salt, how do you feel about Tom Cruise being the next Green Lantern? Yay or nay?
