Venom 2 is looking more and more exciting as the days go by. Back in August, Andy Serkis took over directing duties from the original’s Ruben Fleischer. It was also reported that Tom Hardy, who plays anti-hero Eddie Brock, is helping out with the script. Now, Geeks Worldwide is saying that Tom Holland, the MCU’s Spider-Man, is in talks to make a cameo in the upcoming sequel.
It would be fantastic for Sony’s live-action Spiderverse have Spider-Man in it. But it should be noted that negotiations are still going on. And that means there’s just as good a chance that he won’t appear in Venom 2. Also, Sony will produce Venom 2, not Disney and Marvel. So Tom Holland may be playing an alternate version of Spider-Man, who has nothing to do with the MCU.
It’s all a little up in the air, as Venom is not part of the MCU. Also, we’ve heard something similar before. Apparently, Holland filmed a cameo for the original film. But the scene was vetoed by Marvel. Marvel’s decision to cut the scene is unclear. But Fleischer stated earlier this year that the Venom franchise is leading towards a confrontation between the two.
Spider-Man has had a bit of a rocky year, at least behind the scenes. Following failed negotiations between Sony and Disney, it looked like he was out of the MCU for good. But thanks to an incredibly passionate Holland, a new deal was struck for a third solo film to release on July 16th, 2021. In a separate report by CBR, it was stated that the Venom 2 cameo is part of the new deal between Sony and Disney.
In addition to Hardy, Michelle Williams is also returning as Anne Weying, as is Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady, aka Carnage. Venom 2 releases on October 2nd, 2020.
