Toni Braxton is opening up about her health and life-saving surgery following the death of her sister Traci Braxton about one year ago. The songstress, who has lived with lupus for decades, underwent the procedure in September 2022 after doctors discovered an 80% blockage in her main coronary artery. Admittedly, if left unchecked a while longer, the condition could have resulted in a fatal heart attack.
Speaking to TMZ, the Un-Break My Heart crooner described her process of discovering the condition, undergoing surgery, and embracing the healing process as the scariest moment of her life; having narrowly survived the potentially fatal experience, Toni Braxton gained invaluable knowledge about handling her health. She hoped to pass on to others who may be too occupied to keep tabs on their health.
Toni Braxton Urges Fans Not To Neglect Their Health
According to Toni Braxton, she neglected her health while mourning her big sister, Traci Braxton; this led her to almost pay the ultimate price, leaving a potentially fatal heart condition unchecked. Toni advised others faced with something keeping them so preoccupied to always pay more attention to their bodies. She quipped:
“Your boy always talks to you. You know, I thought I was sad because my sister Traci passed. So I wasn’t paying any attention to it. So listen to your body, Never ignore it.”
Having survived the scary experience, Toni remains focused on recovery. She told her interviewer that she was excited for the chance to still be alive. Meanwhile, she remains committed to her ongoing recovery process, including her cardiac rehab sessions, which admittedly have been helpful.
While focusing on her health, Toni Braxton put her plans to tour on hold. She also put off any plans to release new projects but admits she’s been in the studio lately but opted to take it slow. She also promised fans she would be ready when the time comes for her to resume touring.
While this isn’t the first heart-related health scare the crooner has encountered since receiving her Lupus diagnosis, she certainly has lots of take-homes from the experience.
