Although there are some 1000-lb Sisters stars who fans will always remember fondly, there are others who do not have that luxury. When TLC’s 1000-Lb Sisters premiered on January 1, 2020, the series introduced fans to star sisters Tammy and Amy Slaton, who weighed a combined 1000 lbs. The series documents the sisters’ journey toward losing weight and their struggles. Now in its fourth season, the show has featured several characters, some leaving a bad impression on viewers. Darlene Slaton
When fans got introduced to Amy and Tammy Slaton, the sisters opened up about their difficult childhood and how it inevitably kickstarted their weight problems. The sisters revealed they were raised by their grandmother because their mother rarely had time for them as she struggled to hold on to three jobs to support the family financially.
After their grandmother’s death, the sisters turned to food for comfort. Things quickly got out of control with no adult around to supervise time. In season 1 of the 1000-Lb Sisters, fans witnessed Darlene’s toxic behavior toward her daughters firsthand. She first raised eyebrows when she outrightly dismissed Amy and Tammy’s weight loss journey even before they began.
More recently, she shocked fans when she failed to attend Tammy’s weight-loss surgery because she had to stay with her dogs. Although she had done several other things in the past, that was the final straw for most fans. On Reddit, many fans slammed Darlene for her poor treatment of her daughters. While reacting to a thread, most fans named Darlene their least favorite on the show. One user, u/Fresh-Resource-6572, wrote,
“Darlene is by far the worst. Those kids have all learnt to take care of each other. She was clearly an absent mother emotionally and still is. Yuck, she makes my skin crawl.”
Michael Halterman
For much of the show’s first three seasons, fans didn’t know what to make of Amy Slaton’s husband, Michael Halterman. The sisters always drowned him out whenever he appeared on screen, but it’s worth noting that he was very supportive of Amy during the early stages of her weight-loss journey. However, things began to change following the birth of their first child. Apart from the fact that the couple went against their doctor’s advice by getting pregnant, Michael has made things worse by showing a lackadaisical attitude toward parenting.
His attitude has even worsened with the couple welcoming their second son Glenn. Amy struggles with the demands of raising two kids almost on her own, and fans simply can’t stand Michael anymore. On Reddit, many fans pointed out Micheal as their least favorite cast. A Reddit user u/JadedMcGrath, went as far as claiming Michael was more of a sperm donor than a father figure, and it had become more glaring with the birth of Glenn. Michael also recently filed for divorce from Amy, which signifies the end of their marriage.
Amy Slaton
Another polarizing character on the show is Amy Slaton. Amy initially earned applause from her fans for the effort she put into her weight-loss journey, which resulted in her successfully dropping to the required weight for her surgery. However, after becoming pregnant with her second child, Amy lost much of that motivation and continued to make flimsy excuses for deviating from her dietary plan. On top of that, fans have noticed she didn’t prioritize the health of her babies and even smoked regularly during her pregnancy.
Fans have grown frustrated with Amy; some even accuse her of enabling her older sister Tammy. Although Amy has a lot on her plate as she juggles several responsibilities, many fans feel it is not a justification for her recent poor attitude. While reacting to the Reddit thread, one user, u/Lcp54, said,
“You read my mind, as well!!! It seems like most people fail to see how awful Amy is…..a hypocrite, extremely manipulative, lazy, always unfunny, etc. People talk about how “proud” they are of Amy, but I don’t get it. Every time she speaks, I groan.”
While there is still a road to redemption for these blacklisted stars, they must first see the error in their ways. And given what is happening now, these trios seem far from making the necessary changes.
