The Transformers franchise began in 1984 with a toy-line of vehicles that could transform into robots and a cartoon series developed primarily to sell these toys.
Decades later, not only has the franchise remained just as popular but has also has grown into a worldwide brand that includes everything from toys and cartoons to novels, comics, video games and blockbuster live-action films.
While recent big-screen offerings have included Transformers: The Last Knight, and a Bumblebee spinoff, the small screen has showcased several new cartoons – returning with the upcoming Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy on Netflix.Transformers: War for Cybertron: Siege which is set for release on July 30 on the streaming giant is the first instalment of the trilogy. Chronicling the beginning of the Autobot and Decepticon conflict while they’re still on their home planet, Cybertron the first film offers the set up before they land on Earth to begin the trilogy’s second instalment, Earthrise.
The final trilogy chapter titled Kingdom and will be introducing the Autobots and Decepticon’s descendants: the Maximals and Predacons, Transformers who shift into animal shapes instead of vehicles, first introduced in the 1997 cartoon. The fans have been theorizing a Beast Wars reboot since hearing the name of the third film.
Now, Netflix has further fuelled rumors of the reboot with a recent tweet. In the tweet, announcing the title for the third film –Transformers: War for Cybertron: Kingdom -Netflix included ape and dinosaur emojis as well as phrases like “go ape” and “get your claws out“.
This references not just the animalistic Maximals and Predacons but also hints at their leaders Optimus Primal and Megatron, whose animal forms are a gorilla and Tyrannosaurus rex respectively.
While there have been no confirmations about the third installment besides the title of the film, the chances for a Beast Wars reboot are pretty high. But time will tell.
