In one week from today, Tribes of Midgard plans to debut its latest season, Season 3, alongside a wide range of additions and improvements to the gameplay you know and love. This includes a new Saga boss and region to explore but, more importantly for today, includes a complete rebalancing of the Survival Mode. Today, the team went into further detail regarding that mode, the details for which you can find below!
The Team’s Plans for Survival Mode Going Into Tribes of Midgard Season 3
From the get-go, the team’s goal is to give general updates to both modes following this update to ensure that both those who enjoy its slower pace and those who like the breakneck speed of the standard mode are treated nicely. With next week’s update though, the team wants to put an immense focus on getting Survival Mode to the same level of quality as its companion mode. The biggest way of doing so for the team is by setting it in a time before the Seed of Yggdrasil had a village surrounding it. Without a village to assist you though, you naturally need a lot of changes to make that sort of system work which is done through three main pillars of the update.
The first pillar is in regards to building, which has received many updates to better accommodate what you want out of Survival Mode in Tribes of Midgard. This is done through new capabilities in the camera movement alongside the revamped Build Menu, though has received ample additions to give you more options for building whatever home you’d like. Whether it be beauty with various decorations or types of buildables, or through crafting stations to create several different things, the new system should hold you over until more additions are made.
The second pillar lies in the ability to get better tools for battle and resource gathering. Without the various villagers inside the village, it’s hard to purchase any sort of tools you may need. Meet the Allforge, a free placeable structure that lets you do just that! Interact with the Allforge to get access to all sorts of tools that you could’ve gotten from the village before. All of this, without having to interact with a single NPC.
And then there’s the final pillar, which you’ve likely been wondering since you started reading: how are you supposed to defend the Seed of Yggdrasil? Well, you don’t have to. In the new Survival Mode, days last longer at about 20 minutes and see the night merely spawns enemies you can dispatch at your leisure without them attacking the seed. Getting rid of these foes will also net you some extra resources, used in particular crafting materials. This leaves a bit more challenge to exploring in the dark of night, though should still let you explore freely.
Smaller Changes Coming With the Update
All of this is being done while implementing some smaller changes to various areas you know to make them a little less overbearing. As just one example, Jotnar now spawns in their separate arenas with set spawn points. Defeating them will net you rewards naturally, though can net you even more if you defeat them again at a stronger power level. There’s also the brand new Blessing Tree, which allows you much more freedom to pick skills at your leisure.
Everything together should make Tribes of Midgard’s Survival Mode far more interesting and engaging while still holding that calmer aspect, letting players progress at their own pace while still being able to experience things at their leisure. Remember, this is also only one facet of this update, as much more is coming as we’ve detailed in an earlier news post.
Tribes of Midgard is available on PC and PlayStation platforms, with Xbox and Nintendo Switch versions to debut on August 16. For more details surrounding the game, head over to the official website.
