As you work your way through the cel-shaded action of the newly released Tribes of Midgard you will be running into a lot of runes – even some that may seem useless, such as the Golden Egg Rune. Most of the runes in the game are used to buff your character in some way or provide at least some tangible benefit, but this rune is still a bit of a mystery. While there’s a lot of confusion surrounding this rune, for the time being, it may in the future hold some kind of additional value or be used for something important. You may even want to grab it to see if you can solve the mystery yourself. Here’s how to get and use the Golden Egg Rune in Tribes of Midgard.
How to Get the Golden Egg Rune in Tribes of Midgard
Obtaining the Golden Egg Rune in Tribes of Midgard is actually fairly simple, but it does depend on some RNG (chance). Like other runes within the game – it is dropped by enemies when they are defeated. So if you are on the search for the Golden Egg Rune simply take down as many enemies as you can and hopefully it will drop for you. It should be noted that the drop rate for the Golden Egg Rune is fairly low. It seems to be one of the rarest runes in the game thus far.
What is the Golden Egg Rune Used for?
The use of the Golden Egg Rune is currently unknown amongst the Tribes community. The tooltip for the rune states, ‘Seems useless… unless?” It can be sold to the Ironworker for 200 souls, which is quite a nice return for something that, as of now, seems to have no purpose. There has been coverage of a Reddit user mentioning golden chickens spawning after obtaining this rune, but this is a seasonal addition to Tribes of Midgard called the Roosters of Ragnarök Event that happens regardless of if you have the Golden Egg Rune or not.
UPDATE: As the community has had more time to test different hypotheses, there have been posts popping up that mention that the Golden Egg Rune may increase the number of Golden Horns players are awarded when they leave via Bitfrost. This would fall in line with the secretive hints we have been given by the Tribes of Midgard devs mentioning that the Golden Egg Rune has a stacking effect. Although this still isn’t officially confirmed, it is the current leading theory on the Golden Egg Rune.
For now, the Golden Egg Rune is still a bit of a mystery. If someone does manage to crack the secret behind this elusive rune then we will update this guide to accommodate their findings. In the meantime, keep that sword a-swingin’!
Tribes of Midgard is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
