Today, developer Frozenbyte and publisher Modus Games announced that Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince will be getting a story DLC. The first of many, I hope. Titled Melody of Mystery, this Trine 4 story DLC will be arriving first on PC via Steam, EA Origin, GOG, and Humble Store “soon“. The team didn’t specify any exact dates, but I assume it means later this year. Then, the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One version will follow later in spring 2021. Here’s a snippet of the DLC’s plot.
In Trine 4: Melody of Mystery, there’s trouble brewing at the Astral Academy once again. All the students are cursed, trapped in enchanted slumber and unable to wake up. With a mysterious spirit on the loose, released accidentally by the kind and guileless Cornelius Crownsteed, it’s best to call the Heroes of Trine to see what they can do to bring back Cornelius and his fellow students from their enticing dreamlands.”
As the first Trine 4 story DLC, Melody of Mystery will add a brand new six-level story campaign set in strange and unpredictable dream worlds. All will be accompanied by new music tracks as well. It will continue the travels of Amadeus, Pontius, and Zoya, giving them new upgrades such as Freezing Blink, Explosive Objects, Ricochet Arrows, Hazard Trail, Leaping Lightning, and Charged Dream Shield. There will be new gameplay and puzzle elements that let you manipulate ice, torches, magnets, and crystals as well.
Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince was released on October 8, 2019 for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. As the fourth installment of the Trine series, the side-scrolling game still features the same three protagonists from previous titles. Amadeus, the wizard with powers mostly used to solve puzzles; Zoya, the agile archer most suited for platforming segments; and Pontius, the knight that engages in melee combat.
