If there’s one thing we can all agree on it’s that Spider-Man is great. The web crawler has been a fan favorite since his 1962 debut and has always been my all-time favorite superhero, as he likely is for many of you.
Arguably, Spider-Man has never been more popular than he is today thanks to a number of fantastic releases he’s been part of. We’ve been treated to a brilliant PlayStation 4 game, the outstanding Into the Spider-Verse a well as having a wonderful live-action version portrayed by Tom Holland. Even if the character has been more popular in the past, he’s certainly doing alright for himself at the moment.
Despite your love for Spider-Man you may never love him as much as a group of children from Bolivia who weren’t content with watching their favorite hero, they wanted to become him. We aren’t talking cosplay here either.
Before I continue, I have to point out that whatever you do, don’t try this at home or anywhere else for that matter.
The three boys, aged 8, 10, and 12 were out herding goats when they came across a black widow spider and an idea struck them. They were going to become Spider-Man or Spider-Men.
Their scheme saw them sufficiently annoy the arachnid until it bit them all, thus granting superpowers.
Did it work? I hear you cry.
No. There’s a reason I told you not to try this at home. Not only did it not work, but the boys ended up with a prolonged stay in the hospital. The boys were found crying, causing enough concern for their mother to take them to a health center before they were transferred to the hospital for a week-long stay.
Black widow bites can be deadly but in this case the youths came down with a fever, tremors, and muscle pains. Thankfully, they were all fine and discharged a week later albeit without superpowers. Hopefully they have learned some spider-sense.
The story was recently told by a Ministry of Health official as a warning to children to be more careful.
So next time you want to try for superpowers, please don’t.
Do, however, be sure to let us know your favorite super-hero in the comments section, even if it isn’t Spider-Man. I wonder if these boys will have a new favorite now?
