While Jodie Foster was cast in True Detective season 4, subtitled Night Country, the season did not have the green light from HBO until now with the latest addition to the cast. It has cast actor and boxer Kali Reis (Catch the Fair One) to star opposite The Silence of the Lambs actress in the crime drama anthology series.
Issa López (Tigers Are Not Afraid) will act as showrunner, writer, and director. True Detective season 4 follows a mystery in Ennis, Alaska, where six workers who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station disappear without a trace. Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) are on the case while tackling deeply seeded personal issues of their own lives.
López, Foster, Barry Jenkins, Adele Romanski, Mark Ceryak, Anonymous Content, Mari Jo Winkler, Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Cary Joji Fukunaga, and Nic Pizzolatto will executive produce. Fear the Walking Dead and Shining Girls writer Alan Page Arriaga will write and executive produce.
“We are tremendously excited to return to the True Detective franchise and to be working with the multi-talented Issa López, whose singular vision for her Night Country installment will be beautifully realized with Jodie Foster and Kali Reis in the starring roles,” said Francesca Orsi, EVP, HBO Programming.
True Detective Season 4 Casts Kali Reis with Jodie Foster
Reis went from boxing to acting with her 2021 debut with the indie film Catch the Fair One. She wrote and starred in the film with writer-director Josef Kubota Wladyka (Tokyo Vice). Her performance caught the attention of producers to star in True Detective season 4. The deal was set weeks ago, but it became official after insurance, and other issues regarding her boxing career had to be taken care of.
True Detective season 4 has limited details, but it has some aspects to its identity that fans can expect. The anthology series sets itself with intricate mysteries led by detectives who must battle personal demons that often tie to the crime or get wrapped up in it as their personal and professional lives crossover. Previous major stars have consisted of McConaughey, Harrelson, Vince Vaughn, and Mahershala Ali.
