Co-operative shooters have always had a special place in team-based Tom Clancy games. Whether it’s general deathmatches of player vs. player combat or team-based strategy, FPS titles have evolved. While in recent memory, this hasn’t exactly been clear, games like Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege certainly do. Focusing and relying heavily on the synchronized ability of a team, Rainbow Six Siege became a massive success. Spawning Rainbow Six Extraction, the Tom Clancy series had finally found an amazing foothold. Turning itself into an esport, many future Tom Clancy games would wish to capitalize all the same. Yet, Ubisoft’s upcoming FPS game, XDefiant, has been in beta for some time now. Announced in their blog about insider play sessions, XDefiant will now release as a standalone title without the Tom Clancy name attached.

Why Is Ubisoft Losing Tom Clancy’s Name From XDefiant?
Due to the game now including other clans outside of the Tom Clancy universe, its name had to stand on its own. The XDefiant blog also details how players will be able to access the upcoming playtimes. While these play sessions will be completely under NDA like the beta tests, the new additional clans hopefully shake up the gameplay positively. These play sessions will be used to better balance characters and abilities for a more polished final release. Yet, while the game keeps getting bigger in scope, there seems to be no end in sight for the beta builds of XDefiant. The title currently has no set release date or launch window. Thus, after the last year of playtests, it’s more than likely that Ubisoft believes in this game as a contender for the spot as the best FPS on the market.
