After setting their sights on the water, a new Unknown Worlds game will be set elsewhere. Initially launching their Subnautica series on a very grounded ocean world, there was a lot of potential. Much of that was realized in the expanded Subnautica: Below Zero release that just officially launched everywhere. With so much success mounting in favor of Subnautica’s design, there’s a lot to appreciate. Seeing how they just finished polishing Subnautica: Below Zero, the wait might be a while longer than a year. Yet, according to a recent interview Unknown Worlds’ next game will expand their horizons. In an Escapist Magazine interview, David Kalina explained their plans for “new worlds.”

What Does This Mean for Unknown Worlds’ Upcoming Title?
In light of their recent release, it seems that the team has already been set on a new project for some time. Kalina went on to say, “There is another project at the studio, which hasn’t been announced, that’s a little bit further along as well.” A soft announcement of a new game is good but it’s unlikely we’ll know more anytime soon. As to what “new genres” might entail, there could be a multitude of different ideas outside of the survival motif. It’s plenty of good news to know that Unknown Worlds’ next game is coming along nicely.
What worlds they plan on showcasing will ultimately be their strength as the personality and character put into Subnautica is very well done. That same character and personality are certain to carry over into their upcoming project. Kalina also confidently added that a return for Subnautica would be due in the future. As to when and how is up to interpretation, but the need for more is certainly present.
