Kadokawa announced Tuesday that Kuji Furumiya’s Unnamed Memory light novel series will get a 2023 anime adaptation. The company also revealed a celebratory illustration from novel illustrator chibi and manga artist Naoki Koshimizu. Kazuya Miura is directing the anime at studio ENGI. This announcement is his seventh anime adaptation in the past 4 years.
The anime will star Yoshiki Nakajima as Oscar and Atsumi Tanezaki as Tinasha. Working with him on series composition is Deko Akao, who is most known for her series composition on popular names such as Noragami, Komi Can’t Communicate, and The Case Study of Vanitas.
Yen Press is releasing both the light novel series and the manga adaptation in English. The story is currently described as follows;
Witches- the centuries-old mages that command power immense to bring catastrophe. Oscar, the crown prince of the powerful kingdom of Farsas, was cursed as a young boy to never sire an heir. Hoping to break the magic, he seeks out Tinasha, the strongest witch on the continent. To meet her, he climbs he tower, s she is said to grant the wish of any who successfully does so. Yet, when he arrives at the top… he requests that Tinasha become his bride.
‘Unnamed Memory’: The Story Behind the Novel
Furumiya began serializing the Unnamed Memory novel series on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website in September 2012. Kadokawa began publishing the novels in print with illustrations by chibi in January 2019. Naoki Koshimizu then launched the manga adaptation of the novels in Kadokawa’s Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh magazine in September 2020.
The Unnamed Memory novel ranked #1 in the “This Light Novel is Amazing!” guidebook. Currently, there is also a sequel series titled Unnamed Memory: After the End that was released in February 2022.
As of now, there is no release timeline for the upcoming Unnamed Memory anime. The manga and light novels are available to purchase through the Yen Press website.
