Untitled Goose Game Adds Free Multiplayer Mode to Switch, Physical Release Soon

Soon you will be able to terrorize fine British folks with a friend in Untitled Goose Game on the Nintendo Switch. Revealed in today’s Nintendo Indie World Showcase stream, Untitled Goose Game‘s free multiplayer update will be released on September 23rd, 2020. Also, a physical edition release is “coming soon”. It’s quite a coincidence, considering just yesterday another single-player game — Ghost of Tsushima — got a surprise free multiplayer update announcement as well.

The game was first released on Nintendo Switch (and PC) on September 20, 2019. Developed by House House, a four-person indie studio based in Melbourne, Australia, Untitled Goose Game‘s “unorthodox” stealth mechanics and gameplay combined with simplistic yet endearing art style instantly became a viral hit all over the internet. Later, the game was ported to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on December 17, 2019. In the same month, House House managed to sell one million copies of their game. As a comparison, it took FromSoftware six months to sell two million copies of Bloodborne. Impressive sales record for a brand new indie studio.

A year later House House is adding a cooperative mode to the Nintendo Switch version of the game. Don’t get your hopes up too much yet though; unlike the Legends update for Ghost of Tsushima that’s adding a four-player coop mode, from the looks of it Untitled Goose Game is only getting an extra two-player mode. The official Nintendo Indie World Twitter account, @IndieWorldNA, is planning to open a Q&A with House House this August 20th.
