One of the first significant advancements that Vampire adventurers will require for their character’s equipment in V Rising is the upgrade to Merciless weapons and armor. The Merciless Nightstalker armor provides a major leap in Gear Score, allowing players to explore more dangerous landmarks and take on more difficult V Blood Bosses. As for weaponry, the Merciless Copper Weapons, such as the Mace or Sword, are essential for harvesting higher-tier resources such as Iron Ore. Accordingly, the Merciless upgrade for one’s gear in V Rising is not only highly practical but crucial for one’s progression as a Vampire.
How to Unlock Merciless Gear in V Rising
There are two primary ways for unlocking Merciless armor and weapons in V Rising. The first method is receiving a Recipe Book as an RNG drop from an enemy mob, and the second is by randomized Discovery at the Research Desk within one’s Castle. Unfortunately, both ways are dependent on chance, meaning that unlocking Merciless gear could take some time.

To unlock Merciless upgrades with the Research Desk in V Rising, Vampire players will need to collect Paper ×50 for each Recipe Discovery. Later on, players can use the Paper Press to craft Paper, but in the early stages of the game, adventurers must farm this resource from Bandit Camps found throughout Farbane Woods. After collecting the necessary amount, V Rising fans can return to their Castle and use the Paper to research a random Recipe, which has a chance of being a Merciless weapon or armor piece.
Alternatively, Vampire pilgrims can farm enemy mob drops to obtain a Book for one of the Merciless Recipes. While the drop rate is based on RNG, an excellent source of these Books is the Bandit Armory in the western portion of Farbane Woods. According to members of the V Rising community, Grayson the Armourer, the Level 27 Boss of the Bandit Armory, has the highest chance of dropping a Merciless Recipe. Still, the Books can drop randomly from any Bandit enemy found throughout the starting region.
It should be mentioned that in V Rising‘s Full-Loot PvP servers, it is possible for Vampires to acquire Merciless Nightstalker armor and Merciless Copper weapons from other players. This method will naturally require a character to kill or loot someone else equipped with this specific gear. Therefore, like the other two PvE methods mentioned above, this PvP approach for Merciless upgrade procurement is still based on random encounters.
V Rising is available for PC via Steam.
