In Valheim, fishing can be an important source of food. Sure, you can make a farm or tame a boar, but you can also head to the seas and fish. There are two advantages to fishing. First, and most importantly, it’s easy, once you know what you’re doing. Second, it creates some powerful food relative to how easy it is. Both Cooked fish and Fish wraps are quite strong. Fish wraps are one of the best stamina sources in the game.
What You’ll Need
- Fishing rod
- Fishing bait
- A boat (optional)
You need to find Haldor the Trader to get both the Fishing rod and the Fishing bait. Once you’ve found him, these two items will cost 360 gold— 350 for the rod and 10 for the bait. To save yourself time, we recommend you buy as much bait as you can afford since it is inexpensive.
How to Fish in Valheim
Now comes the fun part. You can either head to the shore or out on a boat and start fishing. It’s easy. Go into your inventory and equip the Fishing rod. Then, left-click will cast your rod. The distance will depend on how long you hold it down. To reel in the rod, right-click. When a fish comes near your hook, a bubble will appear around the bait. Right-click! If you timed it correctly, you will have snagged your first fish. Continue holding down the right mouse button to reel it in.
What You Can Make with Fish
Currently, the recipes available with fish are relatively limited. You can make either Cooked fish or Fish wraps. Unfortunately, Fish wraps won’t be viable until later in the game due to their Barley flour requirement. Still, these are both great food options.
