It’s been more than a decade since fans explored the world of Half-Life and soon that wait will be over. Valve officially announced Half-Life: Alyx a few days ago saying they would release a trailer for it a few days later. The trailer is out and it’s full of details about what we can expect when the game releases next March.
As much as fans wanted Half-Life: Alyx to be a sequel to Half-Life 2, it’s set between the events of the first and second game. The VR game will follow the protagonist Alyx Vance and her father as they uncover a secret that spells doom for all humanity. That’s the most stereotypical plot I’ve heard for a game but I’m into it.
VR was built for the kind of gameplay that sits at the heart of Half-Life, and Half-Life: Alyx was built from the ground up for VR. You’ll be able to play it on any SteamVR compatible system.”
The VR element will see players hide behind cover, take aim at enemies, and search through immersive environments to find much-needed resources. This means you can actually live your dream of ripping a headcrab off of your face. Let’s hope that’s the closest we get to live headcrabs.
Lean around a broken wall and under a barnacle to make an impossible shot. Rummage through shelves to find a healing syringe and some shotgun shells. Manipulate tools to hack alien interfaces. Tear a headcrab off your face and throw it out the window. VR was built for the kind of gameplay that sits at the heart of Half-Life.”
The game will also allow players to build their own custom maps through Steam Workshop.

According to Geoff Keighley, who got to play the game well before its release, the story of Alyx is about 15 hours long. He is also working on a documentary about Valve and the companies work on the Half-Life series.
This is a full-blown Half-Life experience, with a rich, vibrant world, immersive combat, great storytelling, and innovative game design.”
More details about Half-Life: Alyx will be released at the Game Awards on December 12.
