Frontier Developments, the developers of the well-known space flight simulator Elite Dangerous, are creating a Warhammer real-time strategy game. The game will take place in the Age of Sigmar, and will release for PC, consoles, and streaming platforms. Don’t expect this any time soon, though, as it likely isn’t releasing until Fiscal 2023 (the year ending May 31st, 2023). Still, this is exciting news, and it’ll be interesting to see what it’s like. The team let the news slip in a portion of their site regarding investor relations.
The team says they recently signed a deal to acquire the rights to the Warhammer Age of Sigmar IP with Games Workshop. Age of Sigmar is the most recent iteration of Warhammer, a fantasy setting filled with several opponents. The four Grand Alliances of the Order, Chaos, and Death and Destruction vie for power on a grand scale. Given all these factions, it should make for some exciting gameplay if used correctly. We’ll be left to see how that plays out when the game releases in several years.
Warhammer wasn’t all the developers had to talk about. They also discussed that they have three more games coming in Fiscal 2022 and 2023. Two of them will be Formula 1 management games planned to become a yearly series. Fans of racing games should have a lot of fun with both if they’re anything close to the quality of Elite Dangerous. The other title is an unrevealed game for a major IP releasing in Fiscal 2022. All three of these titles will be released on several platforms, but the platforms selected are currently unknown.
This is some really exciting news for Warhammer and RTS fans alike. The last RTS taking place in a Warhammer universe was Battlefleet Gothic: Armada II from last year. It’ll be interesting to see how they adapt it to the recent Age of Sigmar, and we’ll keep you updated once more news releases. Are you excited about this Warhammer RTS?
