Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League had a rocky reception from its first reveal to its eventual release, and that hasn’t changed after people got their hands on the game either. Warner Bros. Discovery admitted during a financial call that the game was a disappointment. Chief Financial Officer, Gunnar Wiedenfels, said that the Rocksteady-developed Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League has “fallen short of our expectations” in terms of sales.
This is a gross understatement because WB had planned on the game being a live service title with a long life and a lot of engagement from players. What actually happened was quite the opposite, because at the time of writing, Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League has under 600 concurrent players currently swinging, teleporting, jumping, and flying around in Metropolis.
Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League Lacking Sales Make it a Failure
Wiedenfels said that this failure makes this a “tough” year when compared to last year. The dichotomy of last year’s massive success of Hogwarts Legacy, which ended up being the highest-selling game of 2023, and this year’s fizzling release of Suicide Squad is ironic, to say the least. The internal pressures of switching to Games As a Service (GaaS) titles for higher profits aren’t panning out. Although the sales figures for Suicide Squad weren’t released, it was likely far below expectations.
This doesn’t exactly come as a shock. The developers aimed to deliver something that went in the exact opposite direction that fans wanted. That is precisely what happened with Suicide Squad. After setting a master class in superhero games with the Batman Arkham series, this switch to a derivative and uninspired title was at fault from the ideation stage, and fans were vocal about it.
Regardless, Rocksteady and WB have a lot of plans in the long term for Suicide Squad. With more villains, missions, and story beats on the way, no one knows how the game will end up. What we know for sure is that Batman is somehow related to the story’s future, and the Joker is going to join the Rogue’s gallery as well at some point.
