With the Steam Game Festival ending yesterday, many will be on the lookout for their next dose of gaming freebies. With a stroke of excellent timing, Total Mayhem’s We Were Here co-op puzzle adventure is free over on Valve’s Steam storefront right now.
Total Mayhem says it hopes to remedy some the weighty solitude experienced by many during the on-going pandemic with ‘an unforgettable adventure online with a friend, partner or loved one’. It also neatly coincides with We Were Here’s launch on PlayStation 4, where it’s also up for grabs via the PlayStation Store. Additionally, Xbox players aren’t being left out in the cold either and can pick up the Xbox One version too.
We Were Here Free to Keep Forever
Rather than the usual try-it-for-a-limited time deal, We Were Here is free to keep forever as long as you claim it before February 23. There’s no tempting us into a full purchase with a temporary taster as we’ve come to expect from free weekends and the like. You can pick it up here on Steam or here on PlayStation 4.
If We Were Here atmospheric cooperative antics have largely passed you by, it drops players in an icy wasteland to explore an abandoned castle. Players split up and must interact to solve challenging puzzles inspired by real-world escape rooms and classic puzzle games like Myst. Finally, here’s the official blurb from Total Mayhem to whet the appetite:
Each player has to explore different areas, and every puzzle requires teamwork to solve. Asymmetric puzzles give each partner different information, and challenge players to talk to each other and figure out exactly what information they have and how it might lead to a solution. You and your partner have nothing but your wits, a walkie-talkie each, and whatever you can find on your way.”
