2005’s Wedding Crashers featured tons of raunchy comedy and shenanigans. And it became a smash hit because of it. Critics and moviegoers praised its jokes and the performances of its leads. With a cast that included Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson, Isla Fisher, and Bradley Cooper in a career-launching role, the comedy became one of the biggest hits of the year. On a budget of $40 million, it brought in over $280 million worldwide.
That would normally be all the information anyone needs to greenlight a sequel. While we’ve never gotten one, that may be about to change. In October, Vaughn spoke about the possibility of a sequel, stating he’d only want to return for a “contemporary” idea. But he also said that Wedding Crashers director David Dobkin had something really great in mind. Making a comedy sequel so long after the first can be very tricky to pull off.
While it couldn’t even be classified as pre-production yet, it is a step in the right direction. Now, another star of the original movie has added fuel to the fire. Jane Seymour recently spoke with CinemaBlend about her latest movie, The War With Grandpa. During the interview, she stated both she and Christopher Walken, who also appears in The War With Grandpa, would return for Wedding Crashers 2.
We both have said we’d love to, at least that’s how I remember it. I definitely said I would love to. I’m sure he would, he loved doing that movie. I read about these things all the time, but no one actually has given me a phone call. So I don’t know if I would be involved or not.”
The original Wedding Crashers follows two womanizers who sneak into weddings to take advantage of all the romance in the air. But when one of them falls for someone and drags the other to a family’s vacation home, hijinks ensue. Jane Seymour played Kathleen Cleary, the matriarch of the family, while Christopher Walken played her husband.
2020 isn’t the first time a possible Wedding Crashers sequel has been spoken of. In 2016, Isla Fisher stated there were discussions of a sequel happening though nothing ever came of it.
