Spider-Man 2099 was first seen in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse in Sony’s Spider-Verse, but as it turns out, he’s up to have an essential role in the Across The Spider-Verse. Miguel O’Hara is a Spider-Man from Earth 839, but he certainly does look different from Peter Parker. And with different looks probably come different powers and skills. Here in this post, we’re about to dive into some details about this character and discover what the Spider-Man 2099 powers will be in the upcoming Spider-Verse 2 movie.
Who is Miguel O’Hara – Spider-Man 2099?
Miguel O’Hara was first seen in The Amazing Spider-Man #365 in a brief appearance, but then this character got his own Spider-Man 2099 comic on September 1992. The character was very well received by the readers and found its fan base among the other variations of Spider-Man. But this character was different, and his origin did not include Uncle Ben or Aunt May at all!
Miguel worked in the Alchemax company as an engineer in the year 2099. In this timeline, the Peter Parker that everyone knew as Spider-Man was gone, and Miguel was trying to reproduce Spidey’s powers by using the spiders’ DNA and testing them. This eventually leads up to him testing it on himself after some conflicts with Alchemax’s CEO and gets strange powers as a result.
The name Spider-Man 2099 is given to this character since he’s from the year 2099. And it’s worth noting that some of Spider-Man 2099’s powers are somehow different from the original Spider-Man.
What Are Spider-2099 Powers?
Spider-Man 2099 didn’t gain his powers by being bitten by a radioactive spider, but his DNA was merged with a spider, so it’s kind of the same thing. However, his powers are not something the same as Peter Parker or Miles Morales.
Organic Webs
One of the essential abilities of Spider-Man 2099 is that he can shoot organic webs! Even in most of the Marvel comics, Peter Parker shoots his web with a web shooter, but Miguel gains the power of shooting webs without the need for one of those.
This actually sounds very familiar to the Spidey fans. If you remember, the Spider-Man from the Tobey Maguire movies also had organic web shooters. And the other two, Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield Spider-Men, were shocked to see him shooting webs out of his wrist in Spider-Man: No Way Home! Now the same goes for Spider-Man 2099.
Talons
Alright, this one is new for Spider-Man. Spider-Man 2099 doesn’t have the power to stick to the surfaces. Instead, he uses his claws and talons to get a grip and stay on a wall. You can see Spider-Man 2099’s talons in the Spider-Verse 2 trailers as well.
Plus, this Spider-Man has a fang too! Which means he can bite, poison, and seriously injure others. This is probably why Gwen calls Miguel a Vampire-Spider-Man.
Health Regeneration
In the comics, Miguel has superhuman abilities, just like other Spider-Mans and superheroes, but Spider-Man 2099 has the power to heal much faster than Peter or Miles when it comes to health regeneration. However, it isn’t on the same level as Deadpool.
Spider-Man 2099 Superhuman Enhanced Powers
And in the end, Spider-Man 2099 also has the superhuman powers you all have guessed. Superhuman speed, agility, hearing, vision, and a lot more. But one thing that separates him from the other Spider-Man variants is the telepathy power. Miguel can contact others without talking using telepathy. The one downside is that he lacks one significant ability that all Spider-Men have: The Spider Sense.
Spider Sense is something that every Spider-Man should have. When Peter senses danger, his reflexes activate, and he can dodge or make a vital decision in an instant. This is something that Spider-Man is known for. But unfortunately for Miguel, he doesn’t have this power. But he can see clearly at night and has the vision to see everything with minor details from long distances.
