Born in 1968, Chun-Li is a Street Fighter character who once lived in China with her father at a young age. Her dad was a police officer, giving Chun-Li a life goal: to live up to her father’s legacy. Moreover, Chun-Li was a huge fan of Bruce Lee. This was the inspiration for her to learn Tai Chi. But Chun-Li’s dad, Dorai, was a martial arts master himself, and that’s how Chun-Li learned new fighting methods.

In fact, Chun-Li lived her life in hopes of becoming a police officer like her father. Dorai taught her the famous Lightning Kicks we see in the Street Fighter games. But fortune was not always on their family’s side. Chun-Li’s father got vanished in a mysterious case. Li continued to grow and become a detective, only to solve her father’s disappearance. But after investigations and hard times looking for an answer, all her clues were on an organization called the Shadoloo.

The Rise of Shadoloo

Shadoloo is a criminal organization that focuses on human experiments and underground activities. Chun-Li learns new techniques with the help of her father’s friend, Gen. Then she gets prepared to find Shadoloo’s head and seek answers.

M. Bison, a madman lusting after dreams of power, was the Shadoloo’s head. He was actually the boss that you needed to defeat in many Street Fighter games, including the SF V. However, when Chun-Li learns about him, she takes him on a challenge to fight. That is where she understands that M. Bison is not an ordinary human being and he possesses weird abilities and power. Hence, she gets defeated by him.

However, M. Bison lets the young Chun-Li live. But before leaving the fighting scene, he reveals that her father is dead at the hands of no other than the Shadoloo. This became a spear in Chun-Li’s soul, which she would sharpen to one day put into M. Bison’s heart.

Chun-Li’s investigations showed that M. Bison is trying to store his powers in a psycho drive. If he could be successful in this mission, he would be unstoppable. This also grabbed the attention of other nations, and a team was gathered from the U.S. to help investigate this case.

A warrior named Guile joined Chun-Li in her pursuit, and the two found a Shadoloo base in Thailand. They managed to get there, destroy the base, and Ryu, another street fighter, defeated M. Bison. But as a trend, the guy might be alive when no corpse is shown on the scene. And it works for M. Bison to come back alive later on.

Street Fighter Tournament Begins!

Years after the defeat, M. Bison later invited all the worthy warriors to a tournament. This time, the winner gets to fight him. This fight ends with Akuma defeating M. Bison, but the organization lives with the Shadaloo Intimidation Network, better known as the S.I.N.

An android called Seth was able to continue Shadoloo’s evil plans. Chun-Li and her new team, consisting of Guile and a new close friend Cammy, follow the footsteps of this android. Only to find out that, again, M. Bison is still alive, running a new tournament he will not participate in.

Instead of M. Bison, Seth takes on the primary target, and the fighters try to take out the others to finish him off. However, before the tournament begins, Chun-Li encounters an enemy named Juri, a Shadoloo member, and is nearly killed by her. But after a time in the hospital, she gets back in action to participate in the new tournament, get revenge on Juri and defeat her. This is while she doesn’t get to take her into custody, and the evil escapes.

At the end of the tournament, Seth and the entire Shadoloo base get destroyed, and Chun-Li is saved from the explosion by Gen. Gen had looked over Chun-Li after her father died, and then he sacrifices himself, only to help this girl live.

After Seth’s defeat, M. Bison starts his final plan by launching a weapon that can target and destroy anywhere globally. Chun-Li tries to stop him in his full power, but she is quickly defeated and saved by Cammy. After investigations on Shadoloo’s new weapon, they figure that it can be activated or stopped by some chess pieces scattered around the globe.

Their investigations lead to the main Shadoloo base. But Chun-Li decides to take every friend and fighter she can with her to stop this organization for one last time. Ryu joins the squad, and after the fight with M. Bision’s army, the villain gets destroyed forever. This is when Chun-Li finds a child named Li-Fen during their attack and decides to adopt her. However, in a quick action, an enemy called Urion kidnaps Li-Fen and gets defeated by Chun-Li in her final act as a detective.

After all the fights and the end of Shadoloo, Chun-Li settles from being a detective. She starts a martial arts dojo in Metro City and tries to raise Li-Fen as her child in SF6. But something is still lurking around in the shadows, something that Chun-Li feels is present.

Street Fighter 6 is developed by Capcom and is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
