Below Deck fans are sympathetic to Fraser Olender who has struggled in his role as Chief stew. Fraser Olender made his debut on Below Deck season 9. The reality star made quite an impression on fans, so it was not a surprise when he returned in season 10 of the popular Bravo series. However, fans were pleasantly surprised to see him promoted to the new role of chief stew. Unfortunately, Fraser has had a tough run in his new role throughout the season. First, he had to deal with troublesome subordinates Alissa Humber and Camille Lamb. Earlier in the season, the duo’s constant feuding caused Fraser many problems. However, he did catch a break following the sacking of Camille in episode 9.
While all this was playing out, tensions were building between Fraser and Captain Sandy Yawn. Since the season began, Sandy has been very vocal about her criticisms of how the chief stew runs his team. Things came to a head between the two as they recently got involved in a heated confrontation. Sandy accused Fraser of rushing charter guests off the boat, but when he tried to explain, she shut him down.
Later, she called him out because she felt Fraser’s team needed to catch up on their job. But when he tried to explain, Sandy cut him off and told him to stop talking. Fans have been following the duo’s frosty relationship and are convinced Sandy does not like Fraser. However, following the recent confrontation between the two, many of the show’s fans got behind the chief stew.
Below Deck Fans Think Fraser Needs More Time To Grow Into His Position
Since the confrontation between him and Captain Sandy, many viewers have taken to social media to defend the chief stew. A Reddit user, u/gohome2020youredrunk, started a thread where they praised Fraser. The OP identified Fraser as the best person to play the chief stew on Below Deck. The user went on to describe him as a good manager and praised him for how he handled disciplinary issues privately.
Most commenters agreed with the OP and lauded Fraser for his compassionate nature and kindness. However, they emphasized other things he could learn on the job, but teaching essential qualities like kindness or compassion is hard. Another section of viewers highlighted that Fraser’s role as chief stew on Below Deck is his first experience serving in that capacity. However, they believe he has shown a commitment to learning on the job and improving with time.
Below Deck Fans Feel Captain Sandy Hasn’t Helped Fraser
Most Below Deck viewers have been very vocal about their support for Fraser Olender and have been unequivocal about how they want him to return for season 11 despite the torrid season he is currently having. There is a general feeling amongst fans that Fraser has all the qualities of a great employee. However, they recognize he would need some help to get up to speed with the new role’s responsibilities.
And this should be coming from Sandy, but she has made a complete mess of the job. One of the commenters even noted that she seems more intent on ensuring that Fraser fails so that she could be “right.” Interestingly, Captain Sandy has shown patience when dealing with other crew members. The question on most fans’ minds is why she seems to have very little tolerance for Fraser.
