Below Deck fans have accused Captain Sandy of making decisions based on her ego. When Captain Sandy Yawn took over from Captain Lee Rosbach earlier in the season due to his health concerns, fans expected a smooth transition. However, nobody expected the chaos that has engulfed St. David since she took over. Captain Sandy laid down the law earlier in the season when she fired Camille Lamb, and most of the show’s viewers had her back throughout that episode. However, Sandy has since lost the fans’ goodwill due to her terrible treatment of chief stew Fraser Olender and, more recently, stew Alissa Humber.
During the February 6 episode of the show, Sandy slammed Fraser for not taking proper control of the interior team — who she claimed were not doing their job. When Fraser tried to defend his team, Sandy immediately told him to stop talking. The preview clip for episode 12 later showed an incensed Fraser reacting to being shut up by Sandy. While venting to Alissa, Fraser says:
“I’m not going to be silenced by someone who’s not seeing the [bigger] picture. I don’t care. Fire me.”
Later, Sandy reveals in a confessional that the walls are thin, and she hears everything around the boat — including the conversation between Alissa and Fraser. She slams the two for having “absolutely no regard for authority.” When episode 12 aired on February 13, fans saw Sandy call out Fraser and Alissa. She also took a dig at Fraser in front of the entire crew and was antagonistic towards Alissa throughout the episode. While chatting to Alissa about it, the stew showed some attitude and referred to the Captain by her name. Although she immediately corrected herself, Sandy felt it was a deliberate attempt to disrespect her and then fired Alissa the next episode.
Captain Sandy is Making Ego-Based Decisions
Below Deck, fans watching the drama unfold feel that Captain Sandy has been mistreating her staff, and they pinned it down to her “ego being bruised” by Alissa. Many fans have been reacting to Alissa’s sack, and they feel Captain Sandy’s decisions are now purely ego-driven. One particular fan took to Reddit to start a thread tagged “Sandy is on a power trip.” The original poster (OP) claimed Sandy was out for blood to satisfy her bruised ego. The user claimed Sandy prefers stews that suck up to her, and Alissa does not fall into that category.
The user also slammed Sandy for being divisive and trying to get “the deck team to think low of the interior team by calling Fraser out” incessantly. More importantly, the OP accused Sandy of desperately wanting fame for herself. Many users agreed with the points raised by the OP and slammed the fire Captain for mistreating her staff. One user noted that Sandy always set herself up for a fight with the crew members. The Redditor said:
“100% agree. However, Sandy is also always spoiling for a fight. She’s constantly giving crew opportunity to show her disrespect by her constant micromanaging. In this case, she should have been talking to Fraser not Alissa/Hayley.“
Another group of fans agreed with some of the points raised by the OP, including her bullying of Fraser, which they described as unacceptable. However, they quickly pointed out Alissa was no saint and got what was coming to her. Since Camille was fired, Alissa effortlessly replaced her as the “bad girl” of the season. Very few fans will put up a defense if she gets the sack, but Sandy may be biting off more than she can chew with her attacks on Fraser.
