Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Harry was absent at the Accession Ceremony, where Charles was proclaimed King. As expected, things are changing a bit in the Royal Family due to the recent death of the former Monarch at 96. Part of those changes includes installing the heir to the throne.
The Accession Council is a required protocol to make the installation process of the new king official. Holding on September 10, Prince Harry was absent from the Accession Ceremony for King Charles III.
The ceremony is divided into two parts. For the first part, just members of the Privy Council and a selected few are invited. The final part is the first council with the new Monarch, where he’ll make a declaration and sign a document to that effect. Only council members are invited to this second part.
Prince Harry was absent at King Charles’ Accession Ceremony while his brother, Prince William, was present. William was in attendance with some politicians and advisers who were in service of the late Queen.
Why Prince Harry Was Absent At The Ceremony
The reason Prince Harry was absent at King Charles III Accession Ceremony is that he isn’t a member of the council. It’s also unsure if the Prince received any invitation at all. According to the official royal website, the Privy council comprises the entire cabinet members and some junior ministers. The late Queen appointed all the current council members.
A correspondent from USA TODAY, Kim Hjelmgaard, talked about the Duke’s absence in an interview with TODAY. Hjelmgaard asserted that it’s possible that the Prince was once on the list but has been removed. His name must have been ejected following his troubled marriage to Meghan.
Prince Harry wasn’t the only absent party at King Charles Accession Ceremony. Wilfred Frost from NBC News pointed out that the space for the occasion was limited. Attendees were selected after some debate, which could be another reason the Prince wasn’t in attendance.
