Deadline reports that Will Ferrell is the latest actor to join the cast of Warner Bros. live-action Barbie movie. Ferrell will allegedly play the CEO of a toy company, most likely Mattel. The film, which is currently in production, will tell the story of a doll who is exiled from the mythical Barbieland and forced to live in the real world for not being perfect enough. Considering the satirical yet, relatable plot and the A-list cast, we could be in for another Warner Bros. blockbuster hit.
Meet The Cast and Crew of Warner Bros. Live-Action Barbie Movie
Warner Bros.’s upcoming action-adventure comedy will be directed by writer/actress/director Greta Gerwig (Little Women), who will serve as the film’s director and co-writer. Gerwig co-wrote the script with writer/director Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story). The two Oscar-nominated writers have a history of working together, both on and off-set – most recently on Mistress America, a comedy/drama in which Gerwig also co-wrote and starred. Warner Bros.’s Barbie will be the fourth time Gerwig will don both the writer and director hat.
The live-action Barbie film stars Will Ferrell, Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), America Ferrera (WeCrashed), Alexandra Shipp (tick, tick…BOOM!), Ariana Greenblatt (Awake), Emma Mackey (Sex Education), and Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live). Margot Robbie (The Suicide Squad) and Ryan Gosling (First Man) will play the lead roles of the iconic pop culture couple Barbie and Ken. Robbie will also act as a producer on the film under her production company LuckyChap Entertainment.
