Guardians of the Galaxy has found its Adam Warlock in Will Poulter. The rumor was initially reported by Deadline and then confirmed via Twitter by Guardians director James Gunn:
As you guys know I often strike down false rumors, so… um…
Welcome to the Guardians family, Will Poulter. He’s an amazing actor and wonderful guy. See you in a couple weeks.
Will Poulter himself then replied to James, further confirming the casting:
Thank you, James. It’s a genuine honour to play this role and to work with you. I’m very excited to get to work.
Who is Adam Warlock?
Adam Warlock is a Marvel hero created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby before seeing further development from Roy Thomas and Jim Starlin. He was first introduced in Fantastic Four #66 in 1967. Adam Warlock was first teased in the MCU in the stinger for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. He has many powers, including enhanced speed, strength, durability, agility, flight, and energy blasts. Thanks to his use of the soul gem, he is functionally immortal. Thanks to his inherent powers and the soul gem, Adam Warlock is one of the real powerhouses in the Marvel universe. He has stood toe to toe with the likes of Thanos and Thor multiple times. As for how he’ll play into the MCU? Warlock seems to have been created by Ayesha as the perfect Sovereign to help her destroy the Guardians of the Galaxy.
