Like most blockbuster movies set to release this year, Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984 has endured a ton of hefty delays. Currently, the DCEU sequel eyes to be unveiled to moviegoers on Christmas Day. But as the coronavirus pandemic continues to put a gigantic pause button over the industry, how likely is it to change?
The short answer tells us that the Wonder Woman release date is fighting to remain in that elusive Christmas slot, but of course, you can never be certain these days. Usually, releasing at Christmas is always highly profitable. With the pandemic though, there’s a clear uncertainty about how confident fans will be to attend movie theatres.
The result of fan uncertainty was noticeable in the summer. Specifically with movies like Christopher Nolan’s Tenet and The New Mutants being prime examples of poor box office performances. It makes sense that if the pandemic is in a similar situation, Warner Bros. won’t risk it.
However, we got another cool Wonder Woman 1984 trailer at DC FanDome in the summer, giving us a new look at the movie!
Recently speaking to Variety, Chair-CEO of WarnerMedia Studios Ann Sarnoff addressed concerns that Wonder Woman 1984 might get pushed back. As expected, it all relies on developments in the pandemic.
It really is about how the U.S. continues to open, and whether there are any other surges. We’ve got a little bit of time to figure that out.”
She doesn’t sound entirely confident. This raises the question: How long will they wait before coming to a final decision? Only time will tell.
The Wonder Woman 1984 release date has seen a change in its premiere date many times. It was initially set for December 2019 before moving to June 2020. After that, it was pushed to August and then October. Now, it sits on Christmas Day. As a result of all these delays, some fans think it should be moved right to streaming.
Do you think the release of Wonder Woman 1984 will be moved again? Should it go directly to streaming? Be sure to let me know!
