Comics are a wonderous thing for many reasons, but one of the most interesting thing that occurs in the comic industry more than any other entertainment medium is the crossovers. We’ve seen the likes of Batman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles combined, Charles Barkley and Godzilla, and even Archie and the Predator. The latest unlikely combination is sure to be an interesting one as well, as Wonder Woman and Conan the Barbarian collide.
The DC and Darkhorse brands will team up this fall, bringing the two sword wielding heroes together for the first time. The tail will be written by fan-favorite Wonder Woman writer Gail Simone and artist Aaron Lopresti. This will be Simone’s first work with the series since the Contagion series, which released on October 13, 2010.
“I love crossovers, I love Wonder Woman, and being able to bring the undisputed greatest warriors of the DCU and Robert E. Howard’s Hyborian Age together for the very first time is a dream come true,” says Simone in a DC Press Release. “A major draw is getting to reunite with the great Aaron Lopresti, whose very favorite things to draw are Wonder Woman and barbarians. Its blades and bracelets, wizards and wonder and I couldn’t be more delighted.”
The story will start with Conan washes up on the shore of an unknown land. Soon after, the Barbarian meets the worlds most notorious arena fighter, Wonder Woman. Bad luck sees them both thrown into slavery. The two much work together to free themselves from the grasps of a rich and powerful slave owner named Dellos. All the while a dark magic descends upon the land, one they must stop at all costs.
The six-issue series will begin September 20. Check out the first look into WONDER WOMAN/CONAN #1 by Gail Simone, Aaron Lopresti, Matt Ryan, Wendy Broome and Saida Temofonte above.
