Writer Mark Waid and artist Dan Mora have been pumping out issues of the new Batman/Superman: World’s Finest since March 2022. They bring their audience a fun comic that takes massive inspiration from the Silver Age of comics. The story takes place in the not-too-distant past when Dick Grayson was still Robin. The series’ payoff seems to be the introduction of a new villain as it uses the time period to add a new character to DC’s history retroactively. The villain? His name is Devil Nezha, and he promises to play an important role in the contemporary timeline.
What Is This World’s Finest Fusion?
Honestly, nobody knows. Waid and the higher-ups are tight-lipped on the matter. The most information fans have received is Dan Mora somewhat confirming on his Twitter that it is a new character. Despite him saying it’s a new character, he could be simply having fun with some new designs, or it could be a technique Batman and Superman need to learn in order to defeat Nezha. Either way, the look evokes some serious Dragonball Z vibes with the energy sparks that look to be emitting around the character.
Who Is Devil Nezha?
Devil Nezha is a new character created by Mark Waid and designed by Dan Mora. He was a 16th-century warlord from China. He was resurrected with an elixir of sorts shortly after being killed. Not only did it bring him back to the land of the living, but it also made him immortal. Now he’s in the 21st century and plotting against the world’s finest superheroes, Batman and Superman. He was first mentioned back in Deathstroke Inc. #9 and promises to shake up the batverse in a big way.
Nezha is simply introduced in the Batman/Superman: World’s Finest pages. During Mark Waid’s five-issue miniseries Batman vs. Robin, he will return in a major role. Mark Waid told Popverse:
…the first arc of World’s Finest is, was, and has always been, designed deliberately to lead into what is going to be Batman vs. Robin.
The miniseries will see the fragile relationship between father and son boil over into a full-blown battle of epic proportions.
Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #4 hits bookshelves on June 21, 2022.
