Travel and fantasy go hand in hand. From the real-life Hobbiton in New Zealand, the real Hogwarts Express in England, and the tropical beaches seen in Pirates of the Caribbean, it is surprising a travel show hasn’t come about yet with a focus on fantasy. But now, Dwarven Forge founder Stefan Pokorny and Dungeons and Dragons icon Satine Phoenix are launching just that.
With an initial goal of raising $100,0o0 in 30 days, this duo plans to travel the world and explore the origins of the fantasy genre. Where the original ideas come from, where inspiration is drawn from , and how it all leads to today. In a promotional video on their Kickstarter page, they explain they would rather create this show by the fans and for the fans, rather than going through a corporation that could limit what they create.
This avenue has worked well for them in the past. Dwarven Forge has built an empire on Kickstarters, launching its industry-leading 3D gaming terrain. Dungeons and Dragons livestream Critical Role raised $11 Million in 45 days to create an animated television show based on their games.
There are various rewards for backers. Even just a $3 pledge earns fans exclusive behind-the-scenes videos and updates. Other rewards for various pledge amounts include limited edition miniatures and terrain, an enamel pin, and a photo print.
The roots of fantasy are deep and wide-spread. Stefan and Satine’s promotional video teases looking into Vikings, European Castles, real-life dungeons, and New Zealand. Titled “Destination Fantastic“, this is sure to be a crowd-pleaser not only for die-hard fantasy and Dungeons and Dragons fans, but also for anyone who loves travel, history, and legends.
