WWE 2K22 is not immune to trailer leaks, it seems. Nothing truly is these days. An alternative “It Hits Different” trailer has leaked out on the morning of WWE’s Royal Rumble event. Presumably, this trailer was set to debut during the event, taking place tonight in St. Louis, MO.
Take a look at the new alternative trailer below. WWE Attires and Shows posted it on YouTube.

It hits different. Again.
If you are looking for something unexpected or a shocking reveal, you won’t find it here. There are a few pleasant surprises, but nothing that will make your jaw drop. The new trailer is “alternative” in name only. It uses cinematic shots of superstar entrances, and signature moves almost exclusively. As opposed to the initial It Hits Different trailer, which had cameos from multiple WWE superstars.
We have seen shockingly little of WWE 2K22, even though the game releases on March 11th. 2K has given us carefully handpicked screenshots and the cinematic pieces used in the trailers but without an ounce of raw, uncut gameplay footage. Even the roster reveals shows the superstar’s overall rating on the screen. As opposed to previous WWE titles, for which the roster reveals showed off a superstar’s full entrance and signature moves.
As you can imagine, the chosen bits of cinematic gameplay shown aren’t instilling confidence in the players. Many people are painting the animations on display as “choppy” and “lacking impact.” Fans are excited about including a new backstage brawl area, but the negative voices outweigh the positive.
In the squared circle
That’s not to say that there aren’t people who are excited to play WWE 2K22. It’s the first WWE game since the less-than-stellar 2K20 released in October 2019. Similar wrestling titles simply don’t exist at the moment. There are other titles, such as Fire Pro Wrestling, but some players avoid it for the steep learning curve. There is also RetroMania Wrestling, Action Arcade Wrestling, and MDickie’s Wrestling Empire. However, none of them offer the kind of AAA, real-world wrestling simulation that many fans want.
In any case, the jury is still out on whether WWE 2K22 will be a return to form for the franchise. The game makes its grand entrance on March 11th.
