The new X-Force comic series certainly started off with a bang. An anti-mutant terrorist organization infiltrated Krakoa and began killing mutants. The assassins, bearing white stripes, are dealt with swiftly. However, one casualty sends shockwaves across the island. Professor Charles Xavier, the longtime advocate for peaceful human-mutant relations, was dead.
Mutants are in mourning over the loss of their leader. Typically, the death of Charles Xavier would send ripples throughout the Marvel Universe. However, the X-Men relaunch gave the team the means to resurrect the fallen. Now, the only question is if X-Force can pull it off and get to the bottom of the assassination.
Five mutants on Krakoa can combine their powers to create a new body for the deceased with their DNA. However, a new physical form is not the issue. After the process is complete, Xavier would use Cerebro to implant a backup of that mutant’s memory into their new body. Unfortunately, the attack broke the late professor’s helmet.
X-Force #2 Spoilers
Jean Grey reveals that multiple “cradles” for Cerebro’s data are beneath Krakoa. However, only one Cerebro can be active at any time. But can any telepath other than Xavier perform the process of restoring a mutant’s mind? While there are many powerful telepaths on the island, none have worked as extensively with Cerebro as Charles Xavier.
Elsewhere, Wolverine and other X-Force members begin an investigation into the terrorists who attacked the island. The mutant Sage performs autopsies on all the assassins. She discovers that their technology bears a resemblance to the Reavers. They were able to home in on Xavier thanks to a tracking device, which prompts Krakoan security to add a daily EMP blast to negate such threats. However, the big question on everyone’s minds was how the assassins bypassed the genetic detection and alert system.
Previously, Domino was taken prisoner while infiltrating the terrorist group. Then, they removed parts of her skin and grafted it onto their agents. When jumping onto the island, the assassins huddled together and read as one signature: Domino. Wolverine soon finds her remains, which will doubtlessly motivate X-Force to find and defeat their unknown enemy.
