The votes are in and the newest member of the X-Men has been revealed! Months ago, Marvel opened up their polls to let fans choose one member of the first official X-Men team from their island nation of Krakoa. The candidates included quite a few fan-favorite Krakoans and more than a couple deep cuts. Now, the fans have spoken and the newest X-Man is quite the familiar face.
This competition was a tough one. Fans had to choose between Forge, Strong Guy, Tempo, Boom Boom, Sunspot, Cannonball, Marrow, Armor, Polaris, and Banshee. Marvel planned to announce the winner in-story at this summer’s Hellfire Gala. This Gala is just one of many of the upcoming plans from the X-Men family of titles.
Over the last week, Marvel has been releasing short comics whittling down the Krakoan competition until only two mutants remained: Polaris and Banshee. Today, Marvel posted a new short by Zeb Wells, David Messina, and Rachelle Rosenberg on Twitter and finally revealed which classic X-Man came out on top.
**SPOILERS FOR THE X-MEN ELECTIONS**
As Polaris and Banshee meet up at the Gala, the pair discuss their potential X-Men status. Polaris expects the voters to prefer her father Magneto. Meanwhile, Banshee figures that people would rather have his daughter Siryn on the team. The two Krakoans agree that either would make a great X-Man and they toast to themselves right before Polaris is announced as the winner!
Polaris a.k.a. Lorna Dane has been a fan-favorite for years, so this is certainly a welcome addition to the X-Men. Her powers rival those of her father, so she’s definitely bringing some much-needed power to the group. Hopefully, the rest of her team can live up to the hype.
