One day after revealing the winner of the fan vote for X-Men membership, Marvel Comics has similarly unveiled the rest of Reign of X’s flagship X-Men team. Debuting in Gerry Duggan and R.B. Silva’s relaunched X-Men #1 in July, Krakoa’s first X-Men team definitely looks like a force to be reckoned with.
The new lineup of features Cyclops, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Rogue, Synch, Sunfire, and Polaris. Undoubtedly, this is already shaping up to be one of the team’s most powerful iterations. Furthermore, according to Marvel, the mutants of Krakoa are no longer content to leave Earth’s defense solely to the humans.
COVER FOR DUGGAN AND SILVA’S X-MEN #1:
The team’s official description shared by the publisher reads:
“The current era of X-Men has evolved mutant storytelling like never before. No longer protecting a world that hates and fears them, the X-Men said goodbye to their dream of coexistence and founded a thriving mutant homeland. But in the aftermath of X of Swords, the original X-Men Cyclops and Marvel Girl realized that the world needed its premiere team of mutant Super Heroes. Things might be complicated between the nation of Krakoa and the rest of the Marvel Universe, but to the X-Men, things are simple—you do what’s right, you protect those who need protecting, and you save the world we all share. This new team is the chosen champions of mutantkind, and they’re up for any battle to protect their people and their home planet.”
Additionally, Marvel shared a series of connecting variant covers for the upcoming X-Men #1. In order to homage 1991’s X-Men #1 by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee, each cover focuses on an individual member of the team. What is more, each cover is drawn by a different artist from Marvel’s Stormbreakers program. These covers include:
Professor X by Juann Cabal
Marvel Girl by Carmen Carnero
Sunfire by Peach Momoko
Synch by Iban Coello
Cyclops by R.B. Silva
Wolverine by Natacha Bustos
Rogue by Patrick Gleason
Polaris by Joshua Cassara
