Wouldn’t it be great if you could check how well a game will run on your computer before purchasing and installing it? Microsoft came up with a solution in the shape of their fresh new Game Performance Fit Indicator (GPFI). GPFI is a new Xbox PC app feature that allows customers to test if a game will run smoothly on their system before investing any money. Microsoft indicated that GPFI would generate predictions based on data obtained from other players’ computers.
What is Xbox App’s Game Performance Fit Indicator
The Xbox app for PC has been updated for June, including a handful of UI changes. Most significantly, the software can now inform you whether a game will run smoothly on your PC by examining its specifications and comparing its performance on similarly equipped PCs.
The new GPFI tool in the Xbox app will act as a fortune teller, advising users on whether their systems can handle their selected games. The GPFI will collect data from prior gamers to predict how well a game would run on a PC.
An Xbox blog post published on Thursday examines a game’s performance on PCs with hardware comparable to yours and then provides a well-informed analysis on how the title should work for you. However, this has the drawback of providing insufficient information for the GPFI to correctly decide if customers’ gaming systems are up to pace.
“As we continue to learn about the performance of a game on similar PCs, you may not see a performance check for every game (especially recently added games) until we have enough information to share a recommendation. Keep checking back!” Tila Nguyen, Senior Product Manager Lead, wrote in a blog post.
Microsoft started testing the Xbox app feature, GPFI, in December, and the Xbox team claims it is now starting to push it out. Users having GPFI access may click on a title to learn more about how “fit” their system is to execute it. The function will also provide information on the system requirements to play the game smoothly.
