If there’s one complaint I’d have to say is pretty central to the Xbox Beta (PC) app, it’d have to be its lack of mod support. Mods can be anywhere from entirely new things to games, down to minor changes and different maps. They might not seem like a lot, but they’re great for increasing game replayability. It’s a massive reason Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is as big as it is today. Thankfully though, it looks like Microsoft has heard our wishes. Thanks to a recent update through the Xbox Beta app, games now have some of the frameworks to begin supporting mods.
This, unfortunately, hasn’t gone into much of the Xbox Beta App just yet. Currently, the only reported game is Into the Breach. As time goes on though and developers learn about the feature, chances are we’ll be seeing a lot more pop up. It’s for the better too, as a lot of these games are about to become much more replayable. For example, Cities: Skylines will likely get a whole host of mods to add further depth to an already great game. There’s a good chance there will also be mods for ARK: Survival Evolved, Clustertruck, My Time at Portia, and more! None of these are confirmed yet, but there’s a good chance given their modding communities.
This is a big step in the right direction for the Xbox Beta App, and it isn’t all Microsoft has been up to recently. Leaked was their upcoming Project Mercury which is a massive overhaul to the Xbox Store. It looks beautiful so far, and you can learn more about it here. Hopefully, you find a game with modding support already that gets it on the Beta app. Is there a list of games you want to see receive modding support? Any games you wish had support for mods?
